Course Audience

This course is designed for students with some experiences in a UNIX environment, who requires skills for managing a Linux server offering advanced network services.

Prerequisites

Good knowledge about using a UNIX environment as covered in ''Using UNIX/Linux'' (BW-LNXUSR), administrating a Linux operating system as covered in ''Linux System Administration'' (BW-LNXADM), and administrating UNIX networks as covered in ''Linux Network Administration'' (BW-LNXNET) or equivalent experiences is recommended.

Course Description

This course describes the tasks that a network manager must perform to get a Linux system set up as a general purpose server for various kinds of services for Intranet or Internet. It covers the aspects of Web and FTP services, file and/or print services for Microsoft (Samba) with or without PDC capabilities and information services like LDAP. Also the course covers the issues of firewall related services and troubleshoot network problems.
